While out for our daily walk a few days ago, my husband and I could see in the distance a mother and her daughter playing in their front yard.
The daughter was in one of those red and yellow “Little Tykes” plastic cars. The mother was standing behind the car, looking in through the opening in the back just waiting for her daughter to turn and look at her.
The daughter did indeed turn, and the mother began to play with her something that looked like “Peek-a-Boo.” Both the mother and the daughter were clearly enjoying the game.
As they heard our approach, they simultaneously turned toward us, both with the expressions of sheer joy still on their faces from their happy interactions. Their faces seemed to radiate the pleasure they had in each other.
Immediately I thought of our relationship with the Lord. If we are His child, He waits for us to turn our gaze toward Him and when we do, it fills His heart with more joy than we can imagine.
“. . .but the prayer of the upright is His delight,” (Proverbs 15:8)
When we turn our gaze to Him, we also find joy unspeakable.“Whom having not see ye love; in Whom, though now ye see Him not yet believing ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory,” (I Peter 1:8.)
Our relationship with Lord should be one of joy and peace and enjoying the beauty of a relationship which all eternity cannot explain to us. Our Lord seeks our presence, He purchased that relationship at the price of the life of His dear Son. He longs for us to turn our hearts and thoughts to Him. Let us seek Him with confidence and assurance that when we do, we will find a Father’s heart full of love, immeasurable, and poured out on us freely.
Zephaniah 3:17
“The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; He will save, He will rejoice over thee with joy; He will rest in His love, He will joy over thee with singing.”
